The Children’s Trust

“The Children’s Trust is a national charity working with children who have multiple disabilities and complex health needs. We are based at a 24 acre site in Tadworth, Surrey but offer our services to children from across the UK.
The combination of services offered by The Children’s Trust is unique. Every year we help hundreds of children and young people and their families from across the UK.”

How does RGS help?
This year the Second and Third Forms at Reigate Grammar School took part in the school’s annual 5 mile run from Reigate Hill to Tadworth Cricket Club to raise money for The Children’s Trust. This year’s charity run, which is now in its 27th year, raised over £6,000 for the charity. The Children’s Trust has been supported by Reigate Grammar School since 1983, during which time the school has raised more than £110,000 for the Trust. Karen Phillips, Community Fundraising Manager at The Children’s Trust added: “I would like to thank all the students and teachers for their wonderful support over the years and for helping to make a difference to children with disabilities. The school has raised a fantastic amount of money since it has been supporting the Trust, and we are very grateful to everyone.”
Help For Heroes

“Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded Serviceman and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The message of the charity is simple: We are strictly non-political and non-critical; we simply want to help. We believe that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life. We may not be able to prevent our soldiers from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.”

Reigate Grammar School raised over £5,000 for Help for Heroes in 2010/2011, at a variety of events including the 'RGS Charity 7s', 'An Evening with John Simpson' and other small projects such as cake sales.
Imibala

“Imibala is a non-profit organisation in South Africa whose primary purpose is to raise money to sponsor children who cannot afford to attend school. £65 is enough to provide a child with tuition and uniforms for a whole year. Imibala is funded by donors as well as from the Imibala Restaurant and Shop which uses all of their profits for the charity. While donations are used to pay tuition and uniforms, the children also participate in the Imibala Art School which seeks to raise the self-esteem and better the lives of some of these sponsored disadvantaged children.”

How does RGS help?
Since 2008, RGS has been raising money for Imibala and as a direct result, supports a group of seven South African children through school. Imibala only covers the primary education years, however, RGS has pledged to see these seven students through their whole school career. In the summer of 2010, several of our students on the rugby tour to South Africa met the students who we support. As our financial support has increased year on year, we are delighted that we are now able to sponsor more children.
