ethos
Reigate St Mary’s is rightly recognised as a happy
school with a warm, caring atmosphere. Many visitors comment
on the impression the school gives of being a ‘large,
happy family’. At St Mary’s we believe that children
will only reach their potential in all areas of learning
if they feel valued and have self esteem. To this end, we
place great importance on praise and reward and on helping
pupils to develop good relationships with their peers and
their teachers.
The objective of the school is to provide a balanced education
for boys and girls up to senior entry. We aim to optimise
every individual childs capabilities
and prepare for the right secondary school for each child.
Our task is broader then mere exam success. Our focus is
to help pupils to become self confident, self assured citizens,
who will reach their teenage years prepared academically,
emotionally and socially for the challenges that lie ahead.
Although the Choir forms an important part of the school,
the choristers only form a small percentage of our pupils
and children do not have to be musical to succeed in the
school. However, the strong musical tradition means that
all pupils are exposed to high standards, both instrumental
and vocal, and therefore there is enthusiasm and encouragement
for everyone to develop their musical talents.
