key stage 1
Years 1 and 2
As the children move into Key Stage 1, they are provided
with a secure base for literacy and numeracy and also encouraged
to investigate and develop independence in their wider learning.
The children are taught by their class teacher for English,
mathematics, science, history, geography, religious studies
and PSE (Personal and Social Education) following the National
Curriculum framework. Specialist teachers for ICT (Information
and Communication Technology), music, art, PE and games,
provide each child with a full and varied curriculum.
At the end of Year 2, the pupils take their Key Stage 1
tests (SATs) to assess their performance so far in English,
mathematics and science.
All children also enjoy the diversity of whole school assemblies,
junior assemblies and, in Year 2, Matins services sung by
the choir, adding breadth to their social and spiritual development.
