Charities

Reigate Grammar School is committed to developing a Charities programme that allows pupils the opportunity to ‘make a difference’ for others less fortunate than themselves. Through a range of fundraising initiatives RGS students are encouraged not only to raise money, but also to improve our awareness and understanding as a community. Therefore, during the project phase, pupils will often promote their passion for charity work through assemblies and talks.

In 2010, The RGS Charity Committee was formed. This is a pupil forum within the School, led by the Sixth Form, to ensure that all pupil-based charitable activities and fundraising objectives are co-ordinated effectively. Their aim is to guide and inspire the pupil body and generate a culture of giving within the RGS community.

During the academic year 2010/2011, a range of charities (local, national and international) were supported. The total sum raised was in excess of £26,000. Building on this success, The RGS Charity Committee decided that we could make a more significant contribution and difference to a specific charity in the local region. Thus, the ‘RGS Charity of the Year’ has been introduced as voted for by the whole school community. For the academic year 2011/2012, we have chosen The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, based in Surrey.

As a community we aim to promote the true meaning of the term charity ie to give loving kindness and support to others through meaningful activity. Through our charitable actions we hope that we have made a significant impact on the perspective of RGS pupils and upon the lives of many deserving people.

What is The RGS Charity Committee all about?

“The RGS Charity Committee is run by a group of motivated sixth-form volunteers whose intentions are to co-ordinate, educate and guide the entirety of the school. Our ambition is to create a recognition of charity work and to develop a culture of giving.”
Hannah Pipe and Sophie Pike

“Our mission is to motivate, encourage, and support all pupil fund-raising activities for our selected charities through careful management and sensitive leadership . Our aim is to guide and inspire the school (the pupil body) in their charitable efforts in raising money for worthy causes. Our core objective is to raise awareness of charities and to generate a culture of giving within our school community”
Alex Pike.
