Applause for The Producers

APPLAUSE FOR THE PRODUCERS SELL-OUT RUN

The Producers 2011

Audiences brightened a December evening with an all-dancing, all-singing performance of the Mel Brooks musical, The Producers performed at Reigate Grammar School.  The four day, five-performance run of the musical saw nearly 1,000 tickets sell out within days.

A cast of 50 drama students and an orchestra of 25 student and professional musicians put on an action packed performance of the magical production, based on Mel Brooks’ Oscar-winning film of the same name.  The plot follows the diminishing career prospects of theatrical producer Max Bialystock (played by Kai Everington) and timid accountant Leo Bloom (played Matthew Gill).  Together, they hatch the ultimate money-making scam: a premeditated theatrical flop with the duo pocketing their investors’ cash.  Against all the odds, their ‘worst play in the world’ turns out to be a hit and chaos ensues.
