sport
Our aim is for each pupil to have the opportunity to represent
form or house or school in competitive sports. We recognise
that not all our children will be first team players.
Rather our objective is to offer a variety of sports at all
levels of competence so that each child may enjoy the camaraderie
and challenge of team activities. As a small school we may
not always be able to beat teams from larger schools. But
well try!
The major sports of football, hockey, rugby, cricket, netball
and athletics feature in the curriculum for both boys and
girls. Time in lessons and after school is also devoted to
judo, basketball, swimming, table tennis, short tennis, gymnastics
and rounders.
An annual activity holiday to a PGL centre in Britain allows
children to experience activities such as abseiling, climbing
and rafting. An annual ski trip is organised by the Friends
of St Mary's Organisation (FOSMA) and is extremely popular.
Parental involvement in sport is encouraged, and staff versus
parents matches in several sports add to the camaraderie
of the school.
