the choir trust
The Trust, established by Godfrey Searle more than 50 years
ago, has the objects of maintaining a choir and educating
the choristers. Godfrey Searle was a respected stockbroker
who was choirmaster at St Mary's Church in Chart Lane, Reigate,
and lived in Sunnyside, a fine early-Victorian
mansion which is now the main school building.
He was a central figure in the merging of St Mary's Choir
with the prep department of Reigate Grammar School to form
Reigate St Mary's. He conveyed Sunnyside and its
grounds to the Godfrey Searle Choir Trust and provided it
with an endowment to finance choral scholarships.
The Godfrey Searle Choir Trust is a registered charity (Charity
No. 305102).
