All students at RGS take at least ten GCSE/IGCSEs* at the end of the Fifth Form (Year 11). The core (compulsory) curriculum includes English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, at least one Modern Language, and Science (either Double Award or three separate sciences). Other subjects are then chosen from the list below.

* For Mathematics, Sciences, English Language and Geography, students sit the IGCSE (International exams) instead of the GCSE. IGCSEs are regarded as more rigorous than GCSEs and better preparation for A-level studies. They are fully accepted by all universities. However, they do not appear in league tables published by the government.
