Girls' Hockey

Head of Girls’ Hockey: Mrs Becky Wickham

Girls' Hockey at Reigate Grammar School continues to go from strength to strength both on and off the field, with the current Girls' Hockey teams boasting nine players who are involved in the Surrey County Junior Academy (JAC).

There are girls' teams for every age group and most years run both an A and a B side who play matches at the school's quality sand-based astroturf pitch at Hartswood playing fields. Training takes place there during games sessions in the autumn and spring terms with additional sessions provided at lunchtimes and after school. The girls' teams then represent the school in a full fixture list of matches played on most Saturday mornings and some weekday afternoons.

Touring is another key aspect of Girls' Hockey at RGS with the school providing an opportunity to go on a hockey tour at almost every age group. The U12 and U13 girls go on tour to Taunton, the U15 team tour Jersey each year, and the senior teams tour to Bath and then Canada in alternate years.

As well as an enthusiastic team of coaches who have many years of hockey experience and knowledge to share with the girls, the school also maintains excellent coaching links with a number of ex-international players, including former GB Olympians Steve Batchelor and Simon Mason, who have both come in to run sessions for the girls. A healthy link is also in place with a local hockey club to encourage the girls to extend their enjoyment and interest of the game beyond their school years.
