Reigate Grammar School (RGS) offers the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) in order to help graduates without a PGCE to become qualified teachers, and to assist the school to identify and recruit high quality new teachers. We believe that working in a school alongside experienced and able teachers is the best way to learn how to teach. By providing a supportive learning environment, and working with leading agencies outside school, we can help prospective teachers to develop their skills and abilities, leading to successful careers in teaching. Our last two mentors within the Institute of Education have praised us very highly in the training and support that we provide to our GTP's. The programme is intended mainly for those who are looking to move into teaching after a career in another field, but it may be an appropriate alternative to PGCE for some recent graduates.
