Music is embedded in our school’s history and is enjoyed by the whole community. At the heart of the school is the Godfrey Searle Choir, with choristers singing to an exceptionally high standard. Recently choristers recorded with Andrew Lloyd Weber and for two Hollywood sound tracks, including Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.
Our Director of Music builds on this excellence encouraging all pupils in singing, playing a wide range of instruments, moving and reacting to music and composing music using computer software. In addition to The Godfrey Searle Choir, the school has two further choirs, an orchestra and various instrumental groups.
Clubs, assemblies and concerts provide ample opportunity for pupils to practice and perform their music. Drama lessons encourage the development of public speaking skills and develop a self-confidence that remains into adult life. A biennial music and drama production sees Reigate St Mary’s pupils, staff and willing parents take over the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill.
Art is taught by enthusiastic, specialist teachers who bring out the creative potential within each child. Treated as both a syllabus subject and as part of the wider learning experience, art is enhanced through trips to galleries and exhibitions.
