Green Shoots and Kindergarten - from 2 years +

We believe that an outstanding Early Years education lays the foundation for everything that follows.

A happy, fun and caring atmosphere in which each child’s thirst for knowledge is expertly fostered and rewarded with praise and recognition is the key to future educational excellence.

Children join Green Shoots in the term in which they turn 3 years old. Once registered to start, parents and toddlers are invited to attend “Stay and Play at Little Shoots”.  These fun filled afternoons are held in the Green Shoots Classroom and run by the Green Shoots staff.  As well as being full of exciting activities these sessions are a perfect introduction to starting in Green Shoots.

For the earliest possible start at Reigate St Marys, our Green Shoots class gives children a very gentle introduction to school life. Attending for a minimum of three morning sessions, with the option of adding additional morning and afternoon sessions as required, pupils enter a warm, caring and stimulating environment that encourages children to learn through fun and rewarding play activities.

Our next step is Kindergarten, which provides a wealth of activities and experiences to continue each child’s learning journey. Pupils attend for a minimum of 5 mornings and can add additional afternoon sessions as required.

Both Green Shoots and Kindergarten follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum and this is well planned to balance the children’s need for exploration and play with enjoyable learning experiences, both in the classrooms and in our purpose built outdoor areas. In addition, both classes are able to enjoy full use of Reigate St Mary’s facilities and 15 acre site.

With excellent teacher to child ratios staff are able to interact with children one on one during the day motivating and encouraging children to investigate and discover, as well as provide individualised learning opportunities and activities for each child.

In addition to the Early Years Curriculum, children benefit from specialist taught Music and Games lessons each week. Children also visit the main ICT suite where they have individualised use of a computer, to compliment the computers and Interactive Whiteboards that they have in the classrooms. Pupils in Kindergarten have the option to take additional Dance and Ballet lessons.

Each child’s progress and development is monitored and recorded individually and staff prioritise communicating the progress made to parents during this very early and exciting stage in a child’s education.

When my children get up in the morning, they want to go to school. I never had that at their last school.

Throughout the school, all pupils are confident, articulate and emotionally mature for their age.
