Our Value this half term is Freedom

In assembly on Monday the children were asked to consider the meaning of Freedom and how it may mean different things to different people around the world. They were asked ‘If freedom was a colour, what colour would it be’?

Punishments can often involve taking away someone’s freedom. Like a detention at school or being grounded. In society we restrict people’s freedom when they break the law.

This tells us that if you don’t respect others you don’t deserve to enjoy your freedom.

The children were asked to:

  • Consider the importance of freedom and think about those who cannot speak or act freely.
  • Treasure freedom and try not to abuse it.

‘For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others’. Nelson Mandela
