Headmaster’s Roundup 25 February

I hope that you had enjoyable half term holidays and were able to re-charge those batteries!

This week we are delighted to welcome Mrs Rachel Walters to the staff. Mrs Walters is 5W’s maternity cover teacher for the remainder of the academic year and she will also be supporting the Sports Department in the delivery of Games. We also welcome back Mrs Saskia Wright who will be teaching Art in Year 5 and overseeing Art at the top end of the school.

Today, Year 6 also had a special event enjoying a music workshop led by Sally Cranham, an accomplished singer/songwriter and a Compassion ambassador. Year 6 wrote their own lyrics which Sally then put to music and I was so impressed with the level of understanding, empathy and compassion shown in the children’s creative writing.

“Compassion is where you feel that you really want to help someone but don’t always know what to do.” – Katie North.

Years 3 to 5 also enjoyed a Compassion Assembly where Sally explained to them how the sponsorship of seven children by RSM pupils and parents completely transforms their lives.

Also this week, Year 4 have been on their annual Reigate walk, with ‘different eyes’. Rather than looking for new trainers, they were looking at the buildings as part of their Combined Humanities, History unit.

A special mention goes to the U10A netball team who took part in the Caterham tournament yesterday and came in the top third. Well done girls!

Finally from me, congratulations to Ella Herbert who has been awarded a Music Scholarship from RGS and, for the second time, congratulations to Catherine Turrington who has been awarded a Sports Scholarship on top of the Academic Scholarship she had already received.
