RGS Godfrey Searle Choir enjoy a three cathedral tour….

In the second week of half term, the Music Department undertook its first ever tour of English Cathedrals, with Polyphony combining with the RGS Godfrey Searle Choir to sing evensong services at Wells Cathedral, Sherborne Abbey and Salisbury Cathedral. There were chances to explore these stunning buildings, which have such a powerful sense of history, and this reinforced the knowledge that the singing formed part of a continuous tradition going back at least 1000 years.

The choir was heard by good-sized congregations, and it was lovely to see some friends and family making the journey to see us, as well as members of the local communities. In addition to rehearsing and singing services, there was time to view the Magna Carta and the world’s oldest working clock at Salisbury, take part in football, frisbee and bowling competitions, and of course to catch up with the bake-off final! Thanks go to Mrs Glynne-Jones in particular for leading the tour, Mr Hare for his excellent organ-playing, Mrs Seymour and Mr Carden from RGS for all
