Ryan wins the R&B Road Safety Competition..
Road safety has been the theme of PSHE lessons at Reigate St Mary’s School this term and as part of this, the children entered the Reigate and Banstead Borough Council ‘R&B Kids Safe’ competition. This involved a lesson in safe driving and parking around the school followed by everyone designing a banner to help encourage parents and guardians to be careful when dropping off. The children loved drawing their ideas and came up with some wonderful pictures.
There were 800 entries from schools all over the borough so you can imagine the excitement when the school received a phone call to say that Ryan from Year 4 was the winner of the whole competition! Councillor Knight, executive member for community safety, and some representatives from the Road Safety Team came to school to meet Ryan in person and deliver a banner with his design on it, just in time for BRAKE Road Safety week. It will be put up outside the school to remind everyone of the importance of road safety particularly around schools.
Ryan was amazed when he saw the huge banner for the first time. Councillor Knight congratulated him and said it had been tough choosing the winner but Ryan’s design ‘used bright colours and had an impressive graphic flare, which the panel loved’.
After being presented with the banner, Ryan sat for a drink with Cllr Knight and had a chat about his bike!
