Sports Roundup 17 May 2018
It’s been an action packed week of sport. On Thursday, the U9 boys and girls had cricket and rounders fixtures against Lingfield. There was success for the U9A girls, losses for the U9A boys and U9B girls, and a tie in the U9B cricket fixture. Special thanks to the Year 3 boys for stepping up to play in the Year 4 match. On Friday, the Year 5 and 6 boys and girls took part in the Lingfield Athletics meet. There were some fantastic individual performances and team performances in the relays and we ended up just 1 point behind the overall winners (please see the report below). Well done also to those boys that took part in the Caterham 6’s tournament on Saturday. After a tough start to the morning, the boys battled back to win 2 close matches against Lingfield and Elmhurst, finishing joint 2nd overall.
This week, the U9 and U8 boys both played Micklefield. There were 2 excellent victories in the B team matches and both A teams lost in two hard fought matches. Yesterday, the Colts A, B, C and D cricket teams played Pennthorpe. Despite defeats in the A, B and C matches, there were some improved performances, particularly the bowling. Well done to the Colts D’s who won their second match of the season. Best of luck to the U9 girls rounders teams who play Caterham this afternoon.
On the 11th of May, Years 5 and 6 were at Lingfield for an athletics event and everyone tried their best. The weather was miserable for the time of the year and everyone was puffing after the relays which the Year 5 girls came 3rd, the Year 5 boys came 1st, the Year 6 girls came 3rd and unfortunately the Year 6 boys were disqualified. In the field events Olivia H came 1st in the rounder’s ball throw, Kate M came 1st in the high jump, Aaron D came 1st in the long jump and Thomas H also came first in the long jump. Thomas H finished 1st in the 80m sprint, Aaron D came 1st in the 150m and Jayden A also finished first in the 600m. Overall we came 2nd out of 4 schools with 250 points. The winners were Lingfield with 251 points so it was so close but I think all the competitors enjoyed it thoroughly.
