Why did you choose a career working with children?
From a very young age I’d always aspired to work with children but initially I was unsure as to in which capacity. However, during secondary school I had two very influential teachers who had a major impact on my education. Their support definitely inspired my choice of career. I feel incredibly privileged to teach, realising that I am fortunate to support and guide young people through their formative years.
Your favourite subjects at school?
I really enjoyed most subjects at school but had a particular fondness for Maths, English and PE. I also enjoyed reading immensely and still do!
Why Lower School?
I’m very lucky to have taught in Early Years, Key Stage 1 & 2 and also in a non-maintained special school. It would be very hard for me to choose a preference because each area is very different. Within Early Years and Key Stage 1, the journey that takes place over one year is incredible and to see the progress the children make is very rewarding.
Most memorable moment in your teaching career?
That’s a really tough one! I’m very fortunate to spend my days doing something that I’m passionate about and love, with highlights every day. Watching a child have a eureka moment is definitely a daily highlight. Also the children don’t seem to mind my crazy dancing either!
My favourite quote:
Be a flamingo in a flock of pigeons – It’s really important that we embrace differences and individuality! Be the person you want to be not the person you think you should be.
