RSM’s Green Leaders Make a Difference

Our passionate team of Green Leaders at Reigate St Mary’s Prep and Choir School recently wrote to the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak to ask why the government are not investing more in renewable energy sources.

Concerned about the effects fossil fuels are having on the planet and wanting to protect future generations from the catastrophic effects of these, our motivated Green Leaders; Jess, Jessie, Imogen, Charlotte, Emma and Aryanna put pen to paper to ask the government to think carefully.

The Green Leaders carefully detailed what RSM is doing to play their part to protect against climate change, from recycling water using water butts, being careful about paper usage, recycling old pens, walking to school and discouraging the idling of car engines in the area. They challenged Mr Sunak on why the government is still investing in fossil fuel exploration whilst banning onshore wind farms and solar farms.

In addition to their carefully written letter, the Green leaders gathered signatures from over 300 other pupils at RSM who feel the same way.

Driven to make the world a better place for all, the Green Leaders thanked the Prime Minister for his attendance at COP27, but asked him not to be a fossil fool!

To their delight, the Green Leaders received a reply from 10 Downing Street thanking them for their thoughts on this important matter and explaining it had been forwarded to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy so they were aware of the views.
