Forest School in Winter

Lower School have started off their Forest School sessions this term and have certainly shown that there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing! Going out in all weathers is a great lesson in resilience and the children have been raring to go, whatever the weather. This week at Forest School, we have been improving our gross motor skills, communication and collaboration by playing team games exploring our natural environment. We have been applying our maths outdoors and finding and making a range of shapes using natural materials as well as making 3D pyramids using natural materials – it has been brilliant to apply our indoor learning outside and use our verbal reasoning skills to explain our thinking. We have also been enjoying splashing in the stream, digging, tying knots and making potions all the while using a fantastic range of language, fine motor skills and collaboration with our friends. As a treat to warm us up, we have also enjoyed delicious a hot chocolate and warming our hands by the fire – what a wonderful way to see in the new term!
