DON’T QUIT – DO IT!
Last week’s assembly was one to remember as Mr Culverwell took to the stage with an inspiring message just in time for Sports Day: Don’t quit when things get tough – DO IT!
To bring this message to life, he shared the incredible story of Seth, a Year 4 pupil here at RSM who is making waves in the world of gymnastics. The children were captivated by a video of Seth performing at a recent gymnastics competition, his strength, skill, and precision were nothing short of remarkable for someone so young.
Mr Culverwell interviewed Seth, asking him about his training and journey. The answers left everyone in awe: Seth trains five times a week, four hours a day, from 5pm to 9pm after school – that’s 20 hours a week dedicated to his passion. He began his gymnastics journey at just seven years old, and now, at age nine, he’s already competing at a high level.
What’s even more inspiring is Seth’s attitude. He shared that he’s had “lots of falls,” but always gets back up and carries on. Sometimes he laughs, sometimes it hurts, but he never quits. His message?
“Keep going. The harder you work, the more satisfaction you feel.”
He spoke fondly of his gymnastics team, calling them his “gymnastics family” – a community where encouragement flows both ways and determination is celebrated. For Seth, the key to success is simple:
“Find something you love, turn up every day, and train as hard as you can.”
Mr Culverwell praised Seth not only for his impressive achievements but also for his humility, saying:
“Despite everything he’s accomplished, you never hear Seth boasting. He’s modest, focused, and has a brilliant attitude.”
The assembly left a lasting impression on everyone. Seth’s story reminded us all – children and staff alike – that with commitment, passion, and perseverance, great things are possible.
It was the perfect message to carry into Sports Day and beyond:
Don’t quit. DO IT!
