Pets As Therapy 2021

Earlier this week Year 1 were delighted to welcome Luna the cocker spaniel in to school. Luna has been trained by the Pets As Therapy organisation to support children and some of Year 1 had the opportunity to read to Luna. Reading to dogs has been proven to help children develop literacy skills and build confidence, through both the calming effect the dog’s presence has on children as well as the fact that a dog will listen to children read without being judgemental or critical. This comforting environment helps to nurture children’s enthusiasm for reading and provides them with the confidence to read aloud; and the children exhibited this. The children are incredibly excited and the plan is for all children in Year 1 to meet Luna over the coming weeks.
