#RSMFridayFastFive – Mr S Williams

Why did you become a teacher?

When I was at school, I loved Sport. I enjoyed helping younger children at my football club and so I thought being a PE teacher would be an ideal job. I would be able to play sport and pass on what I had learnt, helping children to improve, be active and have fun!

Why Primary School?

Having previously taught in secondary schools I found that unfortunately some children didn’t enjoy their learning. When I started teaching in Primary school, I was amazed with the children’s enthusiasm, their desire to learn and how happy they were whilst learning. I soon realised teaching primary school age children was for me!

Favourite Subjects at School?

PE and Science, I enjoyed investigating how things worked. We didn’t have Computing, or robots to programme, otherwise I would have definitely been into Computing!

Most Memorable Teaching Moment?

I have numerous memorable moments from my 25 years of teaching. I always enjoy seeing the expression on a pupil’s face when they persevere, the joy and satisfaction, with the realisation they CAN do it! I also remember how incredibly excited and proud I felt when both of my children were students are RSM. Seeing them grow, learn, be happy and have fun, I felt so lucky.

Favourite Quote?

‘Everything’s hard until you know how to do it.’ Is a great quote to tell children, hopefully, it helps them understand we are constantly learning how to do something new. However, I’m a huge Star Wars fan so ‘Do or do not. There is no try’ by Yoda is my favourite!
