#RSMFridayFastFive – Mrs Whitehead
Our music coordinator, Mrs Whitehead takes the #RSMFridayFastFive challenge this week.
Why teaching? Apparently after my first day at infant school, I came home and said to my mum that I was going to be Mrs. Emmet (my teacher) when I grow up. Both of my sisters are teachers so I guess it is in the blood!
What is your favourite piece of music/composer? It depends on how I am feeling! So many pieces hold memories for me – I love Dvorak Serenade for Strings . I also love Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, which I played with one of my Youth Orchestras at The Royal Albert Hall in a Schools Prom. When I got married I walked down the aisle to Eva Cassidy, Songbird so that’s a special piece of music to me too.
Best subject at school? I did LOTS of music at school. I was lucky! I also enjoyed languages and did French and German to ‘A’ Level.
Best teaching moment? Being a music teacher, there are lots of highs! Every concert is a great moment watching everybody’s hard work come together.
Favourite quote? I love this quote from Roald Dahl:
“ If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely!”
