#RSMFridayFastFive – Miss Loraine

Why did you choose a career working with children? – Growing up, my Mum was a childminder then a nursery nurse so I was always around children. When I finished my A-Levels I decided that instead of going to university, I would take a job working with children to see if it was something I wanted to do, and I haven’t looked back! I completed all my training on the job so was fully immersed from the beginning. Also, I don’t think I could sit still in an office!

Your favourite subjects at school? – My favourite subjects were science and maths. I try to incorporate both into my teaching at every opportunity and I love to see the children experimenting and exploring, especially outside.

Most memorable moment at work? – Working with young children, there are so many moments! I love to see the children engaged in a topic. I particularly remember one child who enjoyed singing ‘5 little speckled frogs’ so much that he spent the morning collecting various items from the all over the classroom to represent the frogs, all the while, continuing to sing!

Why Lower School? – For me the philosophy of learning through play is key. The first years of a child’s school life are so important and I feel privileged to play my part in a child’s development at this crucial stage.
