On Monday, Year 6 welcomed The Young Shakespeare Company to school where they took part in an interactive performance of 'Romeo and Juliet'. They were so enthusiastic and watched and listened intently as the actors delivered Shakespeare's incredible, yet challenging language.
Back in the classroom, they explored iambic pentameter - a rhythm used by Shakespeare and other playwrights of his time. It consists of 10 syllables, divided into 5 'heartbeats'. The children had an image of the Romeo and Juliet setting for them to work from. The results were fabulous and they reported that it was challenging but fun. " I found it really hard to find the beat, but it taught me to be flexible with my words and change the order."
