This term Year 6 are learning about the circulatory system. The children need to understand that there is a sequential process to blood flow round the body, which can be challenging when we just talk about it in class or look at diagrams.
Last week Year 6 acted out how blood flows through the heart in order to understand the function of the four chambers, veins, arteries and valves. In order to give them independence in their learning, they had to plan how they would go about this!
They decided to split the class into left and right chambers and then give jobs like valve to different members of the group. They then used red and blue balls to represent oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.
This was a huge success and really focused on collaborative learning as communication was key to getting the blood to flow correctly!
To progress with our topic but continue to focus on kinaesthetic learning, this week we all actively participated in a circulatory relay race. The students had to use their knowledge of the "double circulation" loop to plan out where the blood would travel and what would be inside the blood at different points.
