Reigate St Mary’s ‘Razor Sharp Minds’ competed in the UK National Final in Harrogate.

Last weekend our Year 6 ‘Razor Sharp Minds’ team travelled to Harrogate to compete in the UK National Final of the First LEGO league competition, an incredible achievement in itself after months of hard work and dedication.

Throughout the competition, the children represented the school superbly. They demonstrated not only their impressive knowledge of robotics, coding and problem-solving, but also outstanding teamwork, resilience and creativity. From presenting their project about a creative solution to problems faced by archaeologists to tackling complex Robotic challenges on the competition table, they approached every aspect with confidence and enthusiasm. The children scored a season’s best of 230 points (twice) in the robot competition, placed in 35th out of the 68 teams competing.

What made me most proud was the way they supported one another, communicated effectively, and embodied the school’s values at every stage. They embraced the experience fully, learning from each challenge and celebrating one another’s successes along the way.

It was an unforgettable weekend, and the children should be extremely proud of all they achieved. They were fantastic ambassadors for the school, and we look forward to seeing where their curiosity and passion for innovation take them next.

The FIRST LEGO League challenge has been a truly inspiring experience for the team, and I cannot praise the children highly enough. It has been a privilege to support them through their preparation and competitions, watching them have fun whilst their unwavering enthusiasm, dedication, and team spirit have been genuinely inspiring.

A huge thank you to all the parents for their ongoing support throughout the year, and especially for joining us in Harrogate on Saturday. It was fantastic to have such encouragement in person during the competition. Thank you also to Mrs Clark for joining me and providing invaluable support to the team throughout the day.
