On Thursday 12 February, the Razor Sharp Minds First LEGO League team, a group of talented Year 6 pupils, took part in the First LEGO League Sussex Regional Tournament, held at Gatwick Airport. First LEGO League is an international STEM competition that develops children’s skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, challenging them to think and work like real scientists and engineers.

As part of this year’s UNEARTHED challenge, the team identified and proposed a solution to a real-world problem within archaeology. They presented their Innovation Project articulately and confidently, clearly explaining their research and thoughtfully responding to judges’ questions.

The team also designed, built, tested and programmed an autonomous LEGO Spike Prime robot to compete in the Robot Game. Remaining calm and focused while executing their algorithms, they achieved one of the highest robot scores of the day. Throughout the competition, the children performed exceptionally well, demonstrating impressive knowledge, resilience and teamwork, all while being outstanding ambassadors for the school.

Competing against 14 other teams, 13 of which were secondary schools, Razor Sharp Minds rose superbly to the challenge and were ultimately crowned Overall Winners and Sussex Regional Champions.

The team has now qualified for the National Final in April. They represented the school magnificently and thoroughly impressed the judges across every aspect of the competition. We now refocus and refine each element of our performance as we prepare to compete against 74 other regional champions in Harrogate.

Congratulations to the team and go Razor Sharp Minds!
