This week our children from Green Shoots up to Year 2 have been celebrating World Nursery Rhyme Week. Each class enjoyed reciting a wonderful selection of rhymes and poems, and it was lovely to see every child joining in with such enthusiasm.
Nursery rhymes are an important part of early learning, and this week reminded us just how powerful they can be. Rhymes help children to develop their listening skills, rhythm, and awareness of sounds, which are key building blocks for reading and phonics. Repetition and rhyme also support memory, language development, and confidence in speaking — and we certainly saw plenty of confident voices throughout the week!
Our Year 2 children were particularly excited to share some nursery rhymes, as they are using rhyme as a focus for their Christmas play this year. It was wonderful to hear them during one of their rehearsals performing the rhymes with great expression and poise — they really are growing into confident speakers and performers.
Well done to all our children for their enthusiasm and joy in celebrating World Nursery Rhyme Week!
