As part of World Nursery Rhyme Week, all three Reception classes learned the same poem - Alligator Pie by Dennis Lee - to perform to one another. The children loved exploring the playful rhyme and rhythm of the poem, and it was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they practised together. When the time came to perform, they delighted their friends with lively voices, expressive actions, and lots of enthusiasm, showing great teamwork and an emerging love of rhyme and poetry.
Learning poems and developing rhyming skills in the early years plays an important role in building early literacy foundations. Recognising and producing rhymes helps children tune into the sounds of language, supporting their reading and writing development as they begin to identify patterns, sounds, and word families.
Well done Reception!
