This half term in Computing, Year 3 pupils have been exploring the extremely important topic of internet safety. The focus has been on helping children navigate the internet safely to become confident, responsible explorers of the online world.
The children have discussed who uses the internet, how often they use it, and the different ways it can be used. They have also enjoyed watching Kara, Winston and the SMART Crew, completing activities linked to animations that introduce the five key SMART internet safety rules. (See poster below)
In each episode, the main characters face a tricky online situation and call upon the SMART Crew, online ‘experts’, who listen carefully and help them make safe and sensible decisions.
The children have responded marvellously, showing a strong understanding of the importance of essential internet safety rules. Please do talk to your child and encourage them to share what they have been learning. It's important to regularly discuss the positive and exciting things they do online, so they feel confident to come to you if something happens that makes them unsure or unhappy.
