Tuesday was Safer Internet Day, and this year’s theme is “Smart tech, safe choices” – focusing on the safe and responsible use of AI.

Please see the video of the RSM IT Ambassadors presenting this year’s theme to the children in the Upper School during the assembly.

Artificial intelligence is now part of everyday life for many children, with around 1 in 3 using AI tools daily for schoolwork, creativity and curiosity. While AI can be helpful, most tools don’t yet have strong safety settings, which can leave parents unsure how best to support their child.

Below are two simple steps to help your family feel confident with AI:

Let's get talking about AI

Get up to speed on AI

Like a lot of things with tech, AI is changing quickly. Before diving into a chat around AI with your child, why not check out our handy parents’ guide to AI.

The guide covers common AI apps and tools, creative ways children can use them, and what to look out for. It helps you get the most out of AI safely - together as a family.

Start a conversation about AI

It’s never too early to start a conversation about AI. Children are growing up surrounded by digital technology, and AI is quickly becoming part of their everyday lives.

Talking about AI will help them learn to use it safely and confidently and makes them more likely to come to you if they see or experience something worrying online.

The easy-to-use conversation guide gives you practical questions and tips to help you get started.
