This week, Year 1 began exploring financial education through the story Ed and Bunny Earn Some Money. The book sparked lots of discussion about earning, saving and spending money. Inspired by the story, we decided to convert our house points into coins, giving the children a practical way to experience managing their own money.
The children enjoyed designing and creating their own money boxes before working together to decide on different ways they could earn “money” in the classroom and what they might choose to spend it on. The project has been a great success so far, with the children showing fantastic enthusiasm and motivation to earn coins. It has also been interesting to see the different approaches emerging, with some children keen to save while others are eager to spend!
We will continue the project for another week and look forward to seeing how the children's understanding of money management develops.
