Upper School

It’s been a vibrant and productive week in the Upper School, with children diving into a wide range of exciting learning experiences. From artistic creations to deep thinking in humanities and expressive writing, our pupils have shown fantastic enthusiasm and skill.

Year 3: Pizza Perfection with Magic Clay

Year 3 had a tasty time in their art lessons, crafting incredibly realistic pizza models using Magic Clay. They moulded the “dough,” pinched and rolled the crust, and strengthened their fine motor skills along the way. Once dried, these calorie-free masterpieces will be topped with bright paper pieces representing cheese, sauce, and colourful veggies. A fun mix of texture, creativity, and imagination - they look good enough to eat!

Year 4: Exploring Forest Biomes and Musical Creativity

In Combined Humanities, Year 4 have been learning about forest biomes. Working in groups, they sorted information into categories such as Climate, Animals, and Other Facts, helping them understand the unique features of each biome while developing teamwork and research skills.

In Music, the children have been composing and performing at the keyboard, exploring rhythm and melody through hands-on practice.

Meanwhile, in Maths, they have been exploring place value using concrete materials as part of the Maths — No Problem! program. Using Dienes blocks and place value counters, they represented four-digit numbers in creative and meaningful ways. The children even took their own photos to document their learning - a brilliant way to reinforce understanding and celebrate progress!

Year 5: Powerful Writing and Peer Editing

Year 5 have been honing their descriptive writing skills by learning about personification. Using powerful verbs, adjectives, and figurative language, they wrote vivid descriptions of the dramatic sinking of Ernest Shackleton’s ship, Endurance. The children then used their purple polishing pens to edit and improve their own and each other’s work — a fantastic example of collaborative learning and reflective writing.

From clay pizzas to polar expeditions, this week has been a celebration of creativity, curiosity, and collaboration in the Upper School. We’re proud of all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm — and we can’t wait to see what next week brings!
