It has been another busy and exciting week of sport, with pupils across the year groups representing the school with enthusiasm, teamwork and determination.
On Wednesday, the Year 6 girls took part in the Hawthorns Football Festival, playing in mixed teams against pupils from other schools. Two teams represented the school and each played five matches during the afternoon. The standard of football was excellent, with the girls demonstrating great skill, teamwork and determination throughout. It was fantastic to see the whole year group involved and enjoying the experience together, showing wonderful enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
Also on Wednesday, the Colts boys enjoyed two competitive hockey fixtures in the sunshine against Caterham and Aberdour in a triangular format, playing 7-a-side matches. The boys made excellent use of the width in attack to move the ball up the pitch and defended strongly by tracking back as a team. It was a great display of effort and teamwork from everyone involved.
The U8 boys also played their first hockey matches of the season this week in a triangular fixture against New Beacon and Hawthorns. The boys were very excited to get started and applied themselves well throughout the matches. The games were competitive, with both teams working hard to meet the ball early and look up to make passes. Their next step will be to develop their team shape to create more space on the pitch.
Meanwhile, the U11 boys travelled to Burgess Hill to take part in the UKSA Hockey Tournament on a beautifully sunny spring day. The squad began with a solid draw in their first group match and then responded to tactical advice with an impressive 2–0 victory in their second game. In their final group match against unbeaten Bede’s, the boys needed a draw or win to progress. In an exciting end-to-end game, they showed great composure to score a dramatic late equaliser with just seconds remaining, securing a 2–2 draw and a place in the quarter-finals.
The quarter-final was another closely contested match, with the boys holding their opponents to a draw at full time. The game was decided by shuffles, and although the result did not go their way, the team can be extremely proud of their performance. The boys played superbly, supported one another brilliantly and represented the school with great pride. They were a real pleasure for Miss Shiret and Mrs Browning to coach throughout the day.
Overall, it has been a fantastic week of sport, with pupils showing great commitment, teamwork and a real enjoyment of representing the school.
