Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Bowles, where they took part in a wide range of exciting outdoor activities. The children approached each challenge with enthusiasm, energy and a brilliant sense of adventure, making the most of the beautiful weather throughout their stay.
One of the real highlights of the trip was the dry ski slope. For some children, this was their first experience of skiing, and they worked hard to master the basics, including learning how to snow plough with control and confidence. The more experienced skiers developed their skills further, adding twists, turns and even jumps as they flew down the giant slope. It was wonderful to see so many pupils challenging themselves, supporting one another and finishing each run with huge smiles on their faces.
Sledging was another hugely popular activity and provided plenty of laughter. The children loved racing down the slope, and the teachers were just as competitive, doing their very best to beat each other!
The climbing activities also proved to be a memorable part of the visit. The children showed real courage as they tackled different climbing challenges and encouraged their friends along the way. A visit to Harrison Rocks added even more adventure, with pupils squeezing through narrow gaps and exploring the rocks with determination and bravery.

Throughout the trip, the children also took part in bushcraft, orienteering and teamwork games. These activities really highlighted their perseverance, communication skills and ability to work together. Many pupils pushed themselves outside their comfort zones, including those who bravely crawled through Al’s Cavern, a pitch-black underground maze that certainly tested their nerve.
The final day was spent on the lake, where the children enjoyed kayaking and giant stand-up paddleboarding. They played games, worked together brilliantly and even managed to stay dry for most of the morning, although this became slightly more challenging by the afternoon!
The children were a credit to themselves and the school. They listened carefully, showed great respect to the Bowles staff and their teachers, and even managed to get some sleep. Big smiles were seen throughout the trip, and many happy memories were made. It was a great few days away and a wonderful opportunity for Year 5 to grow in confidence, resilience and independence.
